Mixing audio for video – Editing
The first step of the mixing process: editing. I usually start by editing the voice-over and dialogue tracks. During editing you make sure that unwanted sounds – like clicks and pops – are removed.
On the voice-over track you might remove or soften the breaths here and there. I wouldn’t remove breaths from people you can see on screen. That quickly starts to sound very unnatural. However, you can sometimes turn them down when they sound too loud. You don’t have to do this by hand, plugins like Waves De-Breath can help.
The easiest way to show you how I do the basic editing tasks, is in a video.
